About ConClaveThere are three faces of ConClave. There is ConClave, Incorporated. There is ConClave, the annual Science Fiction convention. And there is ConClave, the social organization. ConClave, Incorporated, is a not-for-profit corporation, incorporated in the State of Michigan, dedicated to the advancement of Science Fiction literature. As a 503(c)(3) corporation, ConClave is a fully accredited charitable organization (for all federal tax purposes). The primary activity of ConClave, Incorporated, is the annual Science Fiction convention. The ConClave Science Fiction Convention has been held each year since 1976. ConClave is an annual, weekend-long convention in southeastern/central Michigan, which draws approximately 600 people. ConClave attendees share an interest in science, science fiction, fantasy, and related genres. While remaining true to its literary roots, ConClave celebrates Fantasy and Science Fiction in all its myriad forms. Art, music, theatrical performance, and film. Animation, television, fantasy role-play, and renaissance reenactment Gaming and for-real. Writers of fiction and pilots of spaceships. Rennies and Furs. ConClave is a gathering of and for all who share a Sense of Wonder. And finally, ConClave is a social group of F&SF fans and friends. Based in the Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti area, building on the area's fine Universities, ConClave's widening circle is international in scope. ConClave regularly draws together friends from the surrounding US States and Canadian Provinces, as well as the occasional overseas visitor. Closer to home, ConClave members gather on the Third and Fifth Monday every month, at the Sidetrack Bar & Grill. In the heart of Ypsilanti's historic Depot Town, the Sidetrack is renown for its burgers, recently voted to be among the 20 Best in the Nation (GQ Magazine, July 2005). |
